How do you take care of Invisalign clear aligners?

Invisalign clear aligners need to be brushed with a soft-bristle toothbrush and clear liquid soap daily to remove bacteria and food particles. Invisalign aligners can also be soaked in Invisalign cleaning solution to kill more harmful bacteria. Patients should rinse their aligners off every time they take them out with warm (not hot) water and brush their teeth or rinse out their mouths after they are done eating and before putting the aligner back in. Aligners should also be stored in their cases when they’re not being worn so that they do not get lost or damaged.

Is Invisalign painful?

When teeth are not used to being shifted, braces and clear aligners can cause some soreness and discomfort in the teeth and gums. While it’s not always a comfortable feeling, that’s how you know that the aligners are working! Having an over-the-counter pain medication on hand, as well as cold foods like popsicles, can offer some relief. After the first few days of wearing aligners, they should start to feel more comfortable on the teeth and gums as the teeth become more accustomed to being shifted.

Is my child a candidate for Invisalign?

The best treatment option for your child will depend on their orthodontic needs as well as what they want and are able to commit to. Clear aligner therapy requires commitment on the patient’s part to wear their clear aligners as often as possible so that their treatment plan can stay on track. Younger children and patients who are very forgetful can be better candidates for metal braces for this reason. Invisalign has advanced over the years to be able to treat many orthodontic issues, so if your child is interested in Invisalign, we would be happy to speak with them about it.
