Between days off from school, family traditions and vacations, and getting gifts, the holidays are a magical time for kids! But amidst all the excitement, don’t forget to prioritize your child’s oral health. Here are a few tips to keep their teeth healthy during this festive season.

Maintain Their Oral Hygiene Routine

Even during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s vital to stick to a regular oral hygiene routine. Be sure that your child brushes their teeth twice a day for two minutes each time using a fluoride toothpaste and soft-bristled toothbrush. And don’t forget let them forget daily flossing and brushing their tongue!

Encourage a Tooth Friendly Diet

Look for creative ways to incorporate fruits and veggies into your celebrations, like veggie trays, charcuterie boards, smoothies, parfaits, etc. Indulging in delightful holiday treats like hot cocoa and Christmas cookies can be one of the most enjoyable parts of this time of year. Help your child learn how to eat these treats in moderation. Additionally, encourage them to choose sweets that are less likely to cause dental problems down the line, such as dark chocolate, instead of sticky treats like caramel popcorn and cinnamon gummy bears that can increase their risk of cavities.

Schedule Routine Cleanings

Once the festivities wind down, schedule your child’s routine cleaning and checkup at Safari Children’s Dentistry and Braces. Our dedicated team will remove any plaque or tartar that may have built up over the last few months. Regular dental checkups are essential for maintaining oral health. Most children and adults need dental checkups every 6 months. We’ll let you know if your child would benefit from more frequent visits!

From all of us at Safari Children’s Dentistry and Braces, we wish you a merry and bright holiday season. Contact us soon to schedule your child’s next appointment.
