Your Child's First Dental Visit
There are so many important milestones in a child’s life, like their first words, first steps, and first day of school.
At Safari Children’s Dentistry & Braces, we believe a child’s first dental visit is also a big day that should be celebrated! If you have any additional questions about what to expect or your child requires special accommodations, please contact our office. We look forward to working with your family at your child’s first dental visit!
When should I bring my child in for their first dental appointment?
The American Dental Association recommends that kids begin visiting the dentist around age one or when their first tooth grows in, whichever comes first. This is so that their oral health can be prioritized right away, and our team can take a proactive approach to their care. If your child has passed either of these milestones and they have never been to the dentist, don’t worry. Our team will be more than happy to work with them whenever you are able to bring them in to see us for a routine cleaning and dental exam!
How should I prepare my child for their very first dental visit?
We understand that dental offices can be an overwhelming experience, especially for younger children. Our team always strives to make our patient’s experiences as pleasant as possible, and we advise parents to try to talk about dentistry in a positive light so that their child’s initial first impressions are positive. You are also welcome to bring your child in for a quick tour of our office before their first appointment to get a feel for our practice and meet some of the friendly faces they’ll be seeing at their first visit.
What appointments are available?
If you still need to schedule your child’s first dental visit, please give our front office a call or send us a message through our virtual contact form with a few times that work for you, and we will find a convenient time for your family to come see us. We are open Monday through Friday, and while you are welcome to schedule an appointment for your child any time during our office hours, we recommend that elementary-age and younger children visit us in the morning, as they tend to be more cooperative then. Our practice accepts same-day emergency visits as well.Contact Us
